Simple Organic: 5 Simple Home Remedies That Really Work

Fall is here, and with it comes the usual season of colds and flus. Many of us are searching for more natural ways to treat sickness when it arises, and the good news is that you don’t have to be a herbalist, naturopath or health kook to use home remedies that really work.

There are many home remedies out there that are difficult to make, full of expensive and exotic ingredients, or that have questionable results or even safety concerns. Happily, there are also many that consist of one or two simple and readily available ingredients, can be put together in minutes, and work safely and effectively.

These are tried and true recipes and remedies from our own family, and among my first forays into the world of herbal healing. Safe, simple, effective. What more could a mama want?

I'm over at Simple Organic today, sharing 5 of my favorite, easy and inexpensive home remedies using eucalyptus, garlic, peppermint, aloe and onion.

What are your simplest home remedies that really do work?

I am big on garlic and onions. I eat at least 2 cloves of raw garlic daily, and use the onion technique when I am sick. I need to stock up on Eucalyptus Oil now...

i read this on mercola's site years ago and it really does work. at the very start of an ear ache or cold, sniffles, or the 'run down, i feel like i'm coming down with something' feeling-whatever- just put a few drops of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide in one ear, let it really sizzle and crackle away while lying on your side so it doesn't drip out and flip and do it to the other ear with a few drops of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide. works like a charm every single time for me and my husband.

    Stephanie,
I had read that the traditional eucalyptus oil that is normally sold is not safe for children and to buy eucalyptus smithi. While I am excited about using essential oils and herbs, it is hard to sort through all the differing opinions. What do you think?
Thanks for all you do to inform us. I love and follow both of your sites.

  4. This is a great topic and just in time for fall. It's definately cold and sniffle time. My favorite remedy at this time of year is Ginger Lemon Tea. I will have to share the recipe at my blog gogreennaturalliving.com Hoping it may help more moms.

I am always looking for home remedies that are as natural as possible, so keep them coming!
