My second baby also had her hand beside her face. I also felt that the physical sensation of having her come out was much more overwhelming than with my first baby. I actually went numb from the waist down trying to push her out on my side, so I birthed her on all fours and then she came flying out! I was told later about her hand beside her face. For about the first week she kept her hand by her face very often!

Michelle, we're pronouncing the "h" so that it's "Jo-hanna". I like Joanna as well, but there's something about the "h" in Johanna that really softens it and makes it sound so feminine (at least, to me).

Thanks for this. I'm at 36 weeks and I've never gone early at all but I've started all this poky labor, here a little, there a little, then you think Wow this is it and boom nothing - enough to cause you to go mad. Reading your birth story just helped to bring a little peace to the mind and remember to put my trust in Christ and his timing.

What a beautiful little girl! Congratulations.
