Hair? Oh really?

in Babies, Our family

Welcome back! Have you visited our new site, Saving Naturally, where we help you live healthy and spend less?

Okay, I just had to giggle when I read this statement on my baby countdown ticker on my left sidebar:

Day 209- The hair on your baby's head continues to grow.

Seriously? Have you met my babies? Allow me to introduce you, then!

Abbie-1-on-wooden-bench

Meet Abigail, age 18 months. Glorious peach fuzz and little else!

Caden's-on-the-move

Meet Caden, age 12 months. I think he had more than his sister. That's not saying much, lol!

Don't worry, little baby, nobody in this family is expecting you to arrive with any amount of hair! :)

Does anyone else have adorable little baldies like I do? How long did it take your babies to start to really grow hair?

My babies are bald until they're about four years old. At this point, only the oldest (who is six) of the four+ kids has ever had a haircut! (Ironically enough, he was the only one born with hair, but it fell out at about 10 weeks). We *heart* bald babies.

I totally relate, I have bald babies forever!
I have a friend whose daughter is the same age (5 months) and she has a head full of hair. My baby girl not so much.
Oh well bald babies are the cutest:)

I don't have babies of my own yet, but I was basically bald until I was about 3. Now I have thick wavy hair that grows like crazy! I won't complain :) My mom just had to put my in dresses a lot so people didn't call me a boy. Fortunately, my husband has been hairy from day one even though he was a premie, so our kids have a chance for hair.

My daughter was born with a full set of jet black hair. However, my friend swears her daughter did start growing hair till she was 3.

Both my babies had a head full of hair. When my oldest was born the nurses were thrilled to have a chance to wash a head full of hair. They said she had the "salon" treatment.

oh yes!!! My daughters both had very little hair. My "older" DD (by 1 minute) STILL doesn't have much hair. We are JUST able to get it into a ponytail and piggy tails. Barely! LOL Wish I had a good picture to share.

Both my boys were born with a head full of hair, but my oldest lost it all within two months! He didn't really have much on his head until he was closer to 2. My littler one's hair has just kept growing and growing, much to my amazement. I've had to trim it every few months since he was born! So I'm very curious to see how baby #3's hair turns out :)

My son had a very thin layer of dark velvety hair at birth. It was gone in a week and replaced with light peach fuzz. It did grow quickly, and he had his first hair cut at 10 months.
My daughter was born mostly bald, except for her little tiny mullet! It finally started to really grow at about 18mo- and continued to grow like a mullet!
I'm sure people must have thought we cut it like that because it really looked that way! Her first cut was at 3. Now, at 5 and her hair is almost to her waist!

This is only on the subject of hair...
Stephanie, I read your no 'poo post and am 8 or so days along my own experiment. I just wondered - are you still "no poo"? How do you like it? How long was your transition? I didn't find a follow-up post, although I may have missed it... Thanks!

Oh my goodness, YES! My daughter is 18 months old and she just now has a tuft of hair long enough to put into a tiny ponytail on the back of her head. :) I wouldn't mind it except for all the people who comment on what a cute BOY she is...even when she's wearing PINK!

I have to say both my kids had full heads of hair at birth and kept it. My son who will two next month gets a hair cut every 3-4 weeks. He had 3 hair cutes of an inch or more before he was a year and his first one was at least 3 inches b/c I refused to cut it and it stuck out all over the place, would not settle down! My daughter is 3 months and she has a full head, just like her brother, but this last two weeks her curls have come, so it's all over the place and won't stay down! I love it! But bald babies are cute too ;)

my son was born looking like a 19th century composer (that nothing-on-top, but a puffy-ring-around-the-sides-and-back thing.)

None of my 3 had hair. They were all bald for the first year and then it slowly grew in by age 2. The younger 2 were twins so I was sure to put my girl in dresses and pink all the time so she didn't look like her brother!

I have little baldies too! It's so funny.. looking back at the 1st one when she was 1 year old.. finally had the hair that most newborns do and I was ecstatic..of course she would never wear hairbows but now that her hair is half down her back (at almost 4yo!) She never really had all that much hair until at least 2.5! My son had a tad more but never got a haircut until he was about 2 and it wasn't much of a cut lol. My youngest has the most hair any of them had but she's still bald at 9mo. I laughed at my baby books when they said "hair is forming" even with all the indigestion... no hair!

My almost-18 month old has about as much hair as yours do in these pictures. I was a baldy as a baby, too, so I'm not holding out much hope for Baby #2 (due in August) to have any hair.

By the way, I found your blog recently & I am very much enjoying it. Thanks for the effort you put into the blog!

No bald babies here...mine come with lots of hair but perhaps its from my insanely thick long hair in the genes, I don't know...However I know of several families with bald babies and even into toddlerhood. One family I know their 3 year old has less hair than my baby, and she is healthy.

Babies are beautiful, hair or no hair! :)

My first had his first hair cut just before his 3rd birthday. My second had a trim around his 2nd birthday, because he wanted a hair cut like his big brother, not because he really needed it.

Whenever I read lists of "things you need before baby arrives" I giggle when it recommends a hairbrush. I don't think I have ever used a hairbrush with my kids, even though my eldest is 4!

I love my beautiful bald babies!

We were just talking about this yesterday when I was admiring a 4 day old baby. She wasn't bald but instead had about 1 inch long hair. I haven't had any baldies either (in fact I cut my 2nd sons hair when he was only a couple of weeks old in some places. I think it is so fun how different God makes everybody.

My daughter was like your kids except the little bit of hair she had was blonde which made her really look bald. She was probably about 18 months or so when she started not looking so bald but it was still a sad sight. I had to dress her in pink all the time so people knew she was a girl - although sometimes even that didn't help. :)

My sister was born (24 years ago) without a single hair on her head. At 12 months she had bright orangey-blonde hair that stood at least 6-8 inches off her head- straight up!! She looked like a little blonde Don King. Now she has gorgeous hair, without even really trying, no matter what she does to it. I do love her though :)
