Welcome back! Have you visited our new site, Saving Naturally, where we help you live healthy and spend less?

Army-guy-in-cupboard

You start finding army men in the cupboard, staking out your crockpot!

Caden received some army men for his birthday this week, and lo and behold, what should I find this afternoon while the kids are having quiet time! Note how I kept it real for you- the juicer and crockpot that desperately need to be wiped down. Like I was saying, I'm just a regular mom. :)

Now ladies, I know that you mothers of boys (and girls, too) have some stories to share with me! What kinds of things have you found lurking in strange places in your house?

haha. i have three older girls and a 5-year-old boy. i so know what you mean about finding little toy surprises that remind you that you have a boy! i'm a crazy busy mom like all of us. i was at someone's house once and the mom was using a mixer. just the handheld kind. she wiped down the mixer AND cord when she put it in the cupboard. ever since that day about seven years ago, i wipe down the little appliances (and cords) i am using before i put them away. takes just a moment. and it makes me happy when i see my clean stuff!

About 6 months ago, our 3-year-old found Daddy's wallet and took everything out of it. We were able to find most of the contents except the all-important debit card. Weeks passed. While trying to print something out one day (and having major problems doing so), we popped open the printer tray and eureka! We had found his treasure chest. There was the debit card, along with an assortment of other items (of course, most of them direly needed on a daily basis because that's how it all works, right? ;)

That is awesome - little reminders of the creativity of our kids in the simplest and most unexpected settings. My youngest leaves her "puppets" around the house in places for me to find them. And one morning we woke up to a "Do Not Disturb" sign - one side said "Do Not Enter" and one said "Come in dear one." We have never used the phrase "dear one" with her so it became all the more endearing.

That is too funny! It's a glimpse of what I'll be seeing in a few more years! Love it!

I don't have kids but I do childcare in my home. I opened my bread machine(on a low shelf) one day to find a whole bunch of alphabet magnets in there. I had wondered where there were all going! Apparently that was the perfect little spot for little hands!

My 19 mo old son took the pans out of my cabinet and put in all his cars. LOL It was like a parking garage. I was picking cars out of that cabinet for months - still am I think.

Oh geez, the there are hundreds of times that I am reminded in funny ways that I am a mother of a little boy. My kitchen utensils become guns and blasters. My paper plates are frisbees. Every stuffed animal he owns doesn't make it's own noise, he prefers elephants, bugs, and teddy bears, etc all to say "rawr" like a dinosaur. Lastly, he plays very differently than every little girl I've ever babysat. Boys always seem to want to run off their energy and play very physically. All the little girls I've known have been content to sit at the table and color or read or play with dolls, all relatively quiet and peaceful playing. It's frequently exhausting being mom to a boy. In recent months I've needed to start taking a multivitamin with B12 for extra energy just to keep up with him!

I have two little boys. The oldest is just turning 3 this summer so we have just been getting into these things this last year. I can't think of anything off the top of my head for him, but I was reminded of something that the 2-year-old I used to nanny for once did. One day I was noticing that he always seemed to be chewing on something. I started watching him closer (there were 5 kids) to see what he was up to. He went into the living room and lifted up the flap on one of the formal chairs. On the floor under the chair was a pile of marshmallows and the marshmallows from Lucky Charms. They looked like they had been there a really long time, half dissolved and dirty. I asked him how he got them and he told me all about how when his parents were out of the room he would quietly push a chair up to the counter and sneak them out of the cupboard. I thought that was hilarious, but I did have to end his fun and tell him he should not be doing that. That was 8 years ago and I am still telling that story!

Love that! Just the other day at WalMart I went to pull my billfold out of my purse and a lego action figure went flying at the cashier...LOL. You never know where those little guys are going to end up!

Your crockpot story immediately brought to mind my crockpot story...
My kids love to help me while I am cooking or baking. With a 3 year old and 2 year oldtwins they are not yet much help, so I will measure out an ingredient and let them (or help them) dump it into the bowl. So they feel like they are helping but not making a huge mess. Well one day I was making a crockpot stew and I had a helper dumping in ingredients. At supper time Daddy was dishing out helpings when he started to laugh and asked me who had been my helper. I guess I must have turned my back for a moment and my little helper put the whole spoon into the crockpot and I never noticed. It stewed all day. Of course it was my favorite plastic measuring teaspoon, and I now chuckle everytime I use it because it is forever stained with tomato sauce!

I have three boys 8, 15 & 19. When my middle son was about 4 he wanted to begin helping out in the kitchen. While I was ironing he told me he was going to wipe off the kitchen counters. I had no problem with that. I went to the kitchen to see what he had done, he had taken all the dish & hand towels out of the drawer, put them in the sink and turned on the water. Then he put them back in the drawer. Water was everywhere!! He told me that after he wiped the counter he had to do laundry!!
That same afternoon he was pretending to make muffins with playdoh. He told me he had finished them and for me to eat one in about two hours. I said ok. I began to cook supper and turned on the oven to preheat. In about 2 minutes we had a really bad smell in the house, it was the playdoh muffins baking! It took forever to get that smell out of the house and oven!!

This isn't a gender thing, but an age-based one: my daughter, who will be one next week and is a proficient walker, has graduated from "the out game" to "the in game". Now along with books out of the bookcase, towels on the floor, and magnets throughout the house, we also find:
clean underwear in the cooler on the kitchen floor
brother's water bottle in the laundry basket in the living room
my prayer cards from my bedroom in the summer hat basket

It's going to be a fun summer of hide-and-seek!

I have a 5 year old boy and around our house I find Nerf darts in the strangest places! In my plants, stuck in my cupboards, in the laundry basket, tucked in the bookshelf, inside lamps and even in the sink! It always makes me smile when I find one of these little treasures!
The other thing I find tucked in strange places is rocks. My little guy loves to collect rocks! I find them in pockets (hopefully before they go into the wash, but not always!) and I find them tucked in all sorts of little boxes and hiding places. He loves tiny little nooks and crannies to hide his little treasures! I LOVE being the mom of a boy!

My mini claw hair clips used to always disappear. It drove me nuts that they would seem to vanish. Then along came spring- and time to sort though the toys and reorganise, etc, and what should I find? At least a dozen of my hair clips being used for handcuffs for my son's action figures!

I've noticed that my pockets have the most random things when I'm clearing them out at the end of the day: stickers, toddler socks, goldfish crackers, etc!

ice cream scoop in the dog food (a big tub that is in a bottom cupboard)--he was, of course, trying to feed them with a jumbo spoon!
a handheld mixer in his toy basket (a sword, apparently?)
love it,

Well, I have 2 teenage boys and one that is 20. You really don't want to know the things I find around my house, but I'm sure you'll find out what I'm talking about one day. ;)

My husband had to snake our drains this morning. Among other things he found a bracelet. I can only assume it fell off my 7 yr. old daughters wrist and she didn't know what to do, so she just flushed it.

My hidden items are placed by my daughter. She loves putting things "away". We often lose her stuffed puppy dog "Ruff Ruff". And one time, when we could not find him at bedtime I finally asked her "Do you remember where you last put him?" And she said, "Yes. He's in the refrigerator." Why didn't I think to look there?

I have four boys and EVERY time I get my crockpot out I have to clean out some type of toys - usually matchbox cars.
