Go Canada Go?

I have two numbers for you today:

0 and 47

0 being the number of medals that Canada currently has in these summer Olympics as I write this post, and 47th being our ranking among the participating nations. Ouch!

I've heard that the reason we're doing so poorly is because so much money and effort are being poured into the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games (yay- my hometown!), and because of that, not a whole lot has gone into training athletes for these current summer games. Goodness- I sure hope so, because it's a mildly sad state of affairs!

In the meantime, guess I'll be cheering on my neighbors, the good ol' US of A, since they (and China) seem to be the only ones that CBC (a Canadian station, no less!) is interested in covering!

Nonetheless, it's been fun to watch so far. I am a mild summer olympics junkie, I confess. Gymnastics, swimming, diving, track and field- I love it all!

Do you prefer the summer or winter olympics, and which sports are your favorites to watch?

I’ll probably get kicked out of the U.S. right now for saying this, but I’m not a fan of watching sports (Olympic or otherwise) on T.V. Kinda boring for me. :-) I don’t watch them in person for that matter either. I only watch it right now because there is nothing else on t.v., and I’m usually reading a book as I watch! Or we just go to bed early.

I would watch the equestrian events but they never show coverage at all here. (I rode for many years) All we see right now is swimming, volleyball, and gymnastics. Winter Olympics we watch a bit more with the skiing and snowboarding, but if we had to watch sports on t.v. it’d be the X games or something with dirt bikes and skateboards and such. Hubby used to do both!

So there you have it, I’m a bit of a spoil sport when it comes to the Olympics! I’d probably love to watch it if I was THERE, but not so much on T.V. Oh! But I do love the opening ceremonies. This years was pretty awesome!

I love the Olympics too. I hardly ever sit down and watch TV, but I binge on Olympic coverage every two years. I like the gymnastics and figure skating of course, but I’ll watch about anything. This year I’m intrigued by a story I read in World Magazine about Ryan Hall who will be running his 4th marathon in the Olympics. He is a Christian and strives to run for the glory of God. Reminiscent of Chariots of Fire! I’ll be watching him!

I enjoy gymnastics and figure skating. :-) Oh, I also enjoy watching basketball – is that winter? Not having TV in my home, I haven’t been able to follow anything in years.

I much prefer summer Olympics (even though I currently live in Colorado where skiing and winter sports are preferred by the general public). Diving mesmerizes me!!! I love it, though would NEVER do it myself. I like the odd track and field stuff like pole vaulting and high jump too!
